Telehealth has made hormone therapy reachable for women who live nowhere near a menopause specialist — but which providers can actually prescribe to you depends on where you live. Licensing is per state, and every platform serves a different set.

Does it serve your state? This is the one that catches people out. A platform that advertises nationally may still be unlicensed where you live, and you often find out at the end of the intake rather than the beginning.
FDA-approved or compounded? Both are legitimate and they are not the same thing. Compounded hormones are mixed by a pharmacy for an individual and are not FDA-approved products; ACOG recommends FDA-approved formulations where one exists for what you need. Ask which you are being prescribed.
Insurance, or cash-pay?Most telehealth menopause platforms are self-pay. A few bill insurance, which can mean paying very little — but coverage depends on your specific plan, so verify before your first visit rather than after.
Do you see a clinician? Some services run a live video visit, others are asynchronous questionnaires reviewed by a prescriber. Neither is wrong, but they suit different people, and it is worth knowing which you are buying.
Are labs required? Some platforms prescribe without bloodwork, which is in line with Menopause Society and ACOG guidance for most women diagnosed on symptoms. Others require a panel first.
